If you were trying to reach the TekMate website you may be wondering why you ended up here. Here’s the skinny.
This collection of articles is a product of my fertile imagination. I have been writing and collecting them for 40+ years. I hope that you don’t think I am presumptuous for posting this stuff. A few friends suggested that I post some of them just to see what kind of reaction I might get. I’ve called them my ramblings for years and that is essentially what they are – blabbering. If you’re looking for scholarship, forget it. I’m neither a scholar nor an intellectual. I’m also not a soothsayer, preacher, missionary or a very good cook. If the word “curmudgeon“ doesn’t immediately come to mind – it probably will - after you’ve slogged through a few of these things? I will feel great if you are in agreement with some of my positions and just as satisfied if I provoke you into another time zone. I suppose that many folks will say that I am a moron for putting this stuff out into the world wide web. I’m told that it will float unnoticed in the aether for eternity. Well, I have never felt that I was particularly wise so they’re probably right. I’ve been collecting them for my grandchildren. Perhaps they will find them amusing and thought-provoking when they are my age.
One of my greatest character flaws is that I find many diverse subjects very interesting. Focusing on a particular discipline is beyond my capability. My curiosities are always getting in the way of my attention. As a consequence, my blabbering is all over the place. The Human Genome Project simply fascinates me and I have written a lot about the subject from my limited viewpoint. This is the real nitty-gritty, stuff-of-life and although I haven’t got a clue how the molecular chemistry works I am nevertheless, infatuated with the science of genetics. It’s interesting that this science is skewed to match the theories of evolution and assigns creationism to a second-tier, if at all. Personally, I don’t see it as either/or – God created it all so get over it.
I often take exception with some of the ways our culture has changed over my nearing 70 years of life. I am rapidly losing my faith in politics and so I rant and rave over many contemporary cultural phenomena such as “political correctness” and a secular denunciation of religion in general. Our 50-50 philosophically divided population is a statistical miracle to me. Think about it. Nearly 200-million people can vote in this nation and they are completely (and I believe irrevocably) divided over political, social and economic issues. The odds are staggering but seem to follow cultural patterns that have existed for millenia.
I believe that our legal system is being crushed under its own weight. Legal minds have tried to come up with real laws that anticipate and explain absolutely every tiny human aberration. I believe that is absurd and impossible to do in a righteous way. I don’t have a clue how to simplify legalese. I’m also fascinated with technology. I often allow myself to predict what future technological skills might bring us, both in terms of benefits and unintended consequences. I don’t respect a growing list of laws and distrust all politicians. I vote for individuals and avoid political party affiliation like a plague. Anyway, that may offer you a glimpse of the thoughts that cloud my feeble mind.
I have always had my hobbies. In addition to ham radio and electronics which are my first love, seismology and meteorology are among my current favorites and so I put in some pages to watch my real-time station setups here in Spring, Texas. If you ever hear of a magnitude 4.0+ earthquake occurrence anywhere on earth, chances are you can see the wiggles arriving at our place - almost live (within 5-minutes) - on my seismic helicorders. Some big teleseismic events keep rolling in for hours so if you hear a news report of an earthquake, just come here to watch the event coming in near real-time. If the Gulf Coast gets slammed by a hurricane you can watch the weather conditions – almost live as well - that transport us lock, stock and barrel into the next county.
I’ve always thought of myself as being at the bottom of the top and the top of the bottom. No one on earth is more average than me and what little intellect I possess must surely be just as average. I like to fool around with creating websites, so as a learning platform for me, what you see is what you get. I welcome your comments – especially if you have contrasting opinions. Please convince me where I am going wrong.
Our latest slide show and gallery presentation (they change) is a salute to my fifty-year high school reunion. I had a great time seeing and yakking with all of my old pals. I even wrote a little story about my experiences. My fifty-year reunion recollections.
Thanks for dropping by,
GeezerJoe
